Good morning and Happy Monday! This weekend I attended one of the biggest mommy conferences in Houston called Making Me a Mommy. This was their 2nd annual mommy conference event, and it was nothing short of amazing! I attended their 1st mommy conference last year which made me want to come back this year. Let's do a quick recap of the event shall we?!
Naps & Nightcaps: Rest, Romance, & Reclaiming You
Naps and nightcaps with Nikquan Lewis (left) of Intimate Connections and Kamilah Thomas (right) of Soul Care Wellness. These two ladies gave me a better understanding of knowing and taking care of myself as a mom and communicating with my partner. From understanding intimacy, which is done outside of the bedroom, to knowing that I don't have to be the strong black woman and do it all. I can be soft while still accomplishing my goals while being a mom.
Bag Secured, Legacy Locked
The next session of the Making Me a Mommy Conference was the bag secured and legacy locked. I wish we had more time in this session because it was getting so good. Angela Brock (pictured) of Hello Breakthrough and Crystal Smith of The Six Figure Single Mom talked about the importance of budgeting, investing in stocks, and having a life insurance policy for yourself and your children. Some moms had a hard time budgeting and having family meetings about budgeting, so we stayed on that topic a bit longer than the others. The main thing I received from this workshop was to save any amount that you can and just calculating your bills and seeing what is left over is budgeting. It doesn't require much but just start.
Mom Bosses Building Brands & Nurturing Families
The final session of the Making Me a Mommy Conference was the mom boss panel discussion. Top influencers in Houston, Tx came out to speak on the panel.
Courtney Williams (far left),
Codi Alyn (second left), and
Shay Regis (first right) came out to speak on balancing content creation and being a boss. These were some great discussions and topics of trying to handle it all while running a business. Some days you will rock motherhood and other days motherhood will rock you! Either way you both are rocking LOL! They were also an inspiration on stepping out on faith to become a full-time content creator. Of course, you have to outweigh your pros and cons, but if your pros supersede your cons... make sure you go to the Lord in prayer and see where He leads you. 10 times out of 10 He will provide and carry your through.
Let's Chat!
In conclusion, this mommy conference was exactly what I needed. Being around other moms who just get it! From experiencing post-partum, navigating marriage and relationships, to creating a legacy for your children. Being in a space where people want or experiencing the exact things as you just let you know you are in community. This is exactly why I created this space as well for Mothers with Ambitions. We may have different paths, but our end goal is the same. To make moves that matter while building a purposeful wardrobe in style. I cannot wait for the next Making Me a Mommy Conference, and I am speaking into existence that I will be a speaker on the panel or the host of the conference. Come into agreement with me mamas!
